Agate is a variety of quartz characterized by its fineness of grain and brightness
of color. This stone can be found in various minerals; however it is classically associated to originate in volcanic and metamorphic rocks. Agate comes in a variety of colors including white, grey, light blue, orange, yellow, red, and black. Sometime during the 4th century BC, it was discovered along the shore line of the Acate river in Sicily by the Greek philosopher Theophrastus.
