After graduating college in 1981, Holly Hosterman and Paul “Yashi” Lubitz founded Holly Yashi. Hosterman holds an art degree in jewelry making, and Lubitz has a double degree in industrial technology and music. They started working out of a one-car garage creating hand-cut animal earrings made of brass and silver. Their success blossomed with the discovery of forming niobium into stunning pieces of jewelry. Niobium is a rare reactive metal that can be permanently colored without fading or tarnishing. From those humble beginnings of working out of a garage, they have now expanded to creating handcrafted jewelry from their fifteen thousand sq. ft. California design studio. The Holly Yashi collections are beautifully feminine and offer something for every woman.
I had the opportunity to view the Jada Earrings and Mirabella Bracelet from Holly Yashi’s vibrant Bohemian Chic collection. This dynamic line features stunning hand hammered pieces in shades of lime, burgundy, blue, purple, brass, and peach.
The Jada Earrings come in lively patterns with shimmering tones. The hand hammered brass design is reminiscent of Moorish architecture. It’s centered with a dazzling faceted sky blue Swarovski Austrian crystal. Seven dangles hang from the base that are joined with Swarovski crystals and Czech glass in hues of green, peach, purple, beige, and blue. These earrings are 3 ¼” long. Buy the Jada Earrings for $80.
In February 2008, Holly Yashi’s Mirabella Bracelet was featured in OK! Magazine. This sage colored hand hammered bracelet is made from niobium, which allows it to be adjustable and lightweight. Its sensuous pattern along with its textured flower and leaf print makes for a captivating design. The Sage Mirabella Bracelet is embellished with a faceted peridot stone and two faceted smoky topaz gems. This bracelet is also available in Eggplant and Apricot. Buy the Sage Mirabella Bracelet for $80.

Susan Hanover launched her first collection in the summer of 2005, after leaving her career as an attorney. Her designs were an instant hit in NYC’s Henri Bendel store. Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus, Intermix, and others added her collections shortly thereafter. Hanover receives her inspirations from the landscape and nature of her childhood years of living in South Africa. She is particuarly drawn to citrine, smoky quartz, and topaz faceted stones. Celebrities such as Beyonce, Paula Abdul, Sienna Miller, Kelly Ripa, and Molly Sims have been known to wear her collections.
The Assorted 3 Stone Cuff with its chunky gems is bold yet glamorous. Hanover adds these three overlapping stones to the front of the cuff to create a dramatic impact. The faceted stones are in hues of green/blue and white. Each stone is delicately fastened with gold wire to a polished goldstone cuff. This handcrafted bracelet is 2½” wide. Buy the Assorted 3 Stone Cuff through Chickdowntown for $130.

Melissa Joy Manning found her creative talent at a young pre-school age when she started making ceramic
beaded necklaces for her mom. She studied traditional Mexican silversmithing in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and European design principles in Barcelona, Spain. Manning believes that jewelry is not an accessory just to be worn, but an expression of who you are.
On a recent Good Morning America show, Christina Applegate was wearing earrings by Manning. The Mixed Gold Hammered Pear Earrings were matched perfectly with Applegate’s pushed back hair and golden outfit.
I adore the Mixed Gold Hammered Pear Earrings for their intricate pear shaped discs and airy feel. Three chains of various lengths are strung with these discs that are in pink, green, and yellow 14kt gold. This design makes for a cascading effect that creates a dramatic look. From the ear wire, these earrings measure 3.25”. Buy directly through Melissa Joy Manning for $560.
